Common Questions

I know that supporting a child’s reading journey can bring up a lot of questions. Whether your child is a struggling reader, has ADHD or dyslexia, or just needs a little extra support, I’m here to help. Below are some of the most common questions I receive. If you’re wondering about something, chances are someone else has too!

Are the sessions online or in person?

That depends! For reading instruction, I typically meet in person at my home in North Seattle. ADHD coaching and Parent Consultations can also be held virtually or by phone, depending on your preference.

What is your typical age range?

For reading instruction (including writing or spelling), I typically work with elementary-aged children. For ADHD coaching, I work with all ages.

Does my child neeed to be diagnosed with Dyslexia or ADHD to work with you?

Not at all! I work with all types of learners—diagnosed or not. My methods are grounded in the science of reading and are effective for a wide range of learning styles. Whether your child is struggling, needs a confidence boost, or simply benefits from a different approach, I tailor each session to their individual needs.

What is the process to get started?

First, send me an email through my website. I’ll reach out to schedule a time to meet, either in person or online. This helps ensure we’re a good fit.

After that, we can schedule sessions with no upfront commitment. If we’re working on reading instruction, I’ll start with a basic phonics assessment and set 2-4 goals to focus on over the next six months. After a few sessions, I’ll check in with you to review progress and adjust our plans.

What does a typical coaching session look like?

A session lasts one hour, but we take mental breaks and use a mix of learning styles to keep it engaging. While your child and I work, you’re welcome to stay in my living room or on the porch if the weather is nice—or you can leave and return at the end of the session.

What are Parent Consultations, and who are they for?

Parent Consultations are one-on-one sessions where we talk through your questions about your child’s reading development, school challenges, or how to support literacy at home. These sessions are for any parent—not just those whose child works with me for coaching. After our conversation, I’ll send you a summary of our discussion and next steps.  Learn more about Parent Consultations.

What type of payment do you accept?

I will send you an invoice via your email at the end of the month. You can pay directly with your credit card or send me a check. Whichever works better for you.

What is your cancellation policy?

Life happens, especially with young kids! Please notify me at least 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel, and there will be no charge. If it's less than 24 hours, I’ll need to charge for the session. If I cancel within 24 hours, the session is free.

Will there be homework?

Maybe! It depends on your child and what we’re working on. Repetition and practice help many skills stick, so I may send home activities. Don’t worry, I’ll make them fun and engaging!

Who is the mascot of your business?

Our family's goldendoodle, Verona, is kept away from my tutoring office, but she's available for snuggles upon request. She’s well-trained, hypoallergenic, and we keep our house professionally clean.
